EU Introduces Multi-Year Schengen Visa for Indian Travelers

The European Union (EU) has introduced a new visa system that makes it easier for Indian travelers to visit Europe, strengthening the relationship between India and the EU.

Under this new system, Indian travelers who visit Europe frequently can now apply for a multi-year visa, which can last up to five years. This change is aimed at encouraging more interaction between people and building stronger international connections.

The announcement was made on April 22 by Herve Delphin, the EU's representative to India. He shared the news on X, stating that the EU is making it simpler for Indians to travel to Europe. The tweet emphasized the partnership between Europe and India.

According to a statement from the EU mission in New Delhi, the European Commission has adopted new rules for issuing multiple entry visas to Indian nationals. These rules are more favorable than the previous ones and make it easier for Indian travelers to get long-term visas if they have a history of lawful travel and their passports have sufficient validity.

The statement explains that Indian nationals can now receive long-term, multi-entry Schengen visas lasting two years if they have obtained and used two visas within the last three years. After this, they may be eligible for a five-year visa, provided their passport has enough validity remaining.

This decision by the EU is part of the EU-India Common Agenda on Migration and Mobility, which aims to enhance cooperation on migration policy.

Holders of Schengen visas are able to travel throughout the Schengen region for up to 90 days within any 180-day term. These visas do not permit work and are valid in 29 European countries, including 25 EU member states and four associated countries.
